How to get 'Show Desktop' icon and Quick Launch toolbar back in Windows 7
Windows 7 by default has done away with the Quick Launch toolbar. The feature is no longer available by default. In Windows XP and Vista the Quick Launch toolbar contains the Show Desktop icon, which when clicked minimizes all open applications to the taskbar. Needless to say this feature is very handy and is one I personally use very often.
Fortunately for us, the Show Desktop functionality has been retained albeit in less familiar guise.
Show Desktop appears as a little button in the bottom right corner of the desktop (to the right of the time) [See below]
This isn't good enough for me, as I've become accustomed to the little Show Desktop icon next to the Start Menu.
There is hope. The simplest way to get back the old faithful Show Desktop in Windows is as follows:
- Right click each icon pinned to your taskbar and click Unpin
- Right-click your Windows taskbar and click Toolbars >> New toolbar (see picture below)
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
- Now click Select Folder
You shoulld see a Quick Launch toolbar that looks similar to the picture below:
- Right-click on the Quick Launch text and untick Show Test and Show title (see picture below)
- Your Quick Launch toolbar will now look like this (see picture below)
