Download: Foxit PDF reader
Adobe Reader is a great piece of software but I'm reluctant to use it because of its large memory footprint, annoying automatic update feature and the fact that it attempts to install Yahoo! toolbar. A great freeware alternative is FoxIt Reader. If you read PDFs often you'll find that a switch to FoxIt can make a big difference to your computers performance.
Reasons to consider a switch to FoxIt PDF Reader:
- It's a small download (currently less than 2MB)
- It does not hog system resources like Adobe Reader.
- It contains no spyware.
- Currently in version 2.0, FoxIt supports Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003/Vista
- Its very quick and launches immediately unlike Adobe.

PDF readers are not a worry for me, but I need a free PDF creator. Interestingly enough, I found that OpenOffice can create pdf's from any document you create - whether it be a document, slideshow, or spreadsheet. I still want a converter which I can use with microsoft aps though... I'm guessing a free version of something like that is close to impossible?
